On July 29, 2026, Hou Kai, Auditor General of the National Audit Office of China presented letters of appointment to 15 special audit advisors at the 6th Meeting of Special Audit Advisor Appointment in Beijing.

The Special Audit Advisor system, established in 1991, has been functioning as a crucial mechanism in the Chinese auditing system, designed to enable citizen participation in public sector audit and to exercise external oversight of audit institutions.

Special audit advisors are usually professionals in economy, public finance and law from all walks of life with different political parties affiliation or without party affiliation. Over the years, special audit advisors have earnestly fulfilled their duties by conducting research and making recommendations, thereby contributing to law-based, well-mannered, high quality, efficient, and clean audit work.
